To keep it short, honest, and simple this workshop was a wealth of knowledge and a very eye opening experience for me in many ways. To begin, I was blown away with Jonathan’s honesty in reference to how he runs his business. There really were no secrets with him as he will openly answer questions and willingly share his personal experiences. In addition to that, he has amazing knowledge of film and exposing (common’, the man has his own lab)! Each day was jam packed with information and shooting.

I gained so much more knowledge about exposure, family formals(which are looking solid post worship) composition, business, and film. I was most impressed with Jon’s honesty and passion. The fact that he didn’t hold back and wasn’t afraid to give away his “formula”, or walk you though his process, says a lot about his character. He is a true teacher and mentor that is willing to share his gift and talent with others. A teacher and mentor, who, even with all his years of experience, still has the passion of a man who just picked up a camera for the first time.

It goes without saying that Jonathan Canlas is obviously an amazing photographer. To be able to learn from him was not only an honor but a true inspiration. He has the rare ability to find light and beauty in everyone. In an industry that’s sometimes driven by labels, good looking people, fancy dresses, and tight pants Jonathan sees past all that and gets down to the heart and soul of what photography truly is.
